1. What is a Traffic Management Plan (TMP)?A TMP is a document which adequately provides for the safety of workers and road users while maintaining an adequate level of service to road users. Any party undertaking work on a road shall prepare a TMP.

3. Do I need to obtain approval/s for a Traffic Management Plan?Yes – Prior to commencing works, approval shall be obtained from the agency responsible for the care, control and management of the relevant roads. In addition to obtaining approval to work within the road reserve from the relevant Road Authority, other agencies such as emergency services, Police, public transport etc in the area may need to be notified in advance of the impending works.

6. What traffic management records am I required to keep?It is recommended that any party undertaking work on or alongside a road, should keep a copy of the TMP and in particular a record of all traffic control device placements and any changes to these during the works (Daily Diary), in accordance with AS 1742.3.
